Fruits are produced only by flowering plants (angiosperms). After flower pollination, the fertilized ovule develops into a seed, and the surrounding ovary wall forms fruit tissue or peel. Maturation of one or more flowers produces a fruit, and pistils of the flowers form all or part of the fruit. There are one or more ovules in the ovary, of which the megagametophyte contains egg cells. After double fertilization, these ovules will become seeds.
