Gas Fire Extinguishing Systems are fire protection devices that utilize specific gases as extinguishing agents, primarily designed to combat Class A, B, and C fires (including solid material fires, liquid fires, and gas fires), as well as fires involving electrical equipment. These systems work by rapidly discharging the stored gas or liquefied gas from pressure vessels into a protected area upon detection of a fire, utilizing either physical or chemical mechanisms to extinguish the flames.
Working Principles:
Physical Suffocation: Certain gases like IG541, a blend of nitrogen, argon, and carbon dioxide, reduce the oxygen concentration within the protected space to a level insufficient for sustaining combustion, thereby achieving fire suppression through suffocation.
Chemical Inhibition: Clean agents such as FM200(HFC-227ea) and novec 1230(Fk-5-1-12) swiftly decompose and absorb heat while interrupting free radical chains in the combustion process, effectively stopping flame spread through chemical inhibition.
Cooling Effect: Some gases also provide cooling effects during evaporation, absorbing large amounts of heat to help lower the temperature at the fire scene and aid in extinguishment.
Design Features:
Gas extinguishing systems typically consist of cylinder assemblies, container valves, selector valves, check valves, nozzles, piping systems, detection and alarm systems, and control panels.
The release of the extinguishing agent can be automatically initiated by sensors (such as thermal, smoke, or flame detectors), or manually activated.
Suspended installations ensure the even distribution of the extinguishing agent throughout the protected area, enabling efficient coverage of the fire source and rapid extinguishment.
For locations with electrical equipment, these gases are non-conductive, preventing secondary damage to such equipment.
Due to their environmental friendliness, efficiency, and low impact on protected assets, gas fire extinguishing systems are widely employed in data centers, telecommunication rooms, libraries, archives, repositories for valuable items, and other critical electronic equipment facilities.
